Paperwork
This is a selection of sample paperwork that I've created to simplify workflow and increase efficiency in costume shops I've worked in. Developing build schedules, comprehensive at-a-glance sheets, and clearly understandable yardage spec sheets helps keep everyone in the shop on the same page and all work running smoothly. Blank spaces and/or false names may to used to protect actor privacy or anonymity as these are working documents from real shows.
Sweeney Todd- OCU Fall 2023
Sample paperwork developed by me incorporating some of the designer's original paperwork. This is a working file, used by the shop to keep everyone on track, somewhat akin to a traditional 'costume bible.' I developed this process after working in many disorganized, high workload shops, where deadlines and even whole costumes would missed or completely forgotten about because everyone was working on their own projects and not collaborating with anyone else. The idea was to run the costume shop more like other scenic shops and businesses I've been involved in, utilizing a clear build schedule and division of tasks to keep the full staff accountable for the work being completed. This transition has been very successful and has ultimately allowed for the production of even more work of a significantly higher quality that is completed according to deadlines while keeping overtime to a minimum.
Measurement Sheet
I developed this measurement sheet to ensure that all the measurements that I need as a cutter draper are taken and to streamline the measurement taking process. It is much simpler to quickly take widths, then complete all circumference and finally all length measurements. It is also a much more inclusive process that reflects our changing environment. I also have a corresponding online survey for stage management to send to casts to prefill the top section and share any private or sensitive information they may want costumes to know but not the rest of the production team. The back of the page allows for keeping track of shows actors have appeared in and any shop related notes that reference the actor- body differences, dressing room preferences, specialty measurement, etc.
Swatch Sheet
This swatch sheet was developed to accurately organize the fabrics being used in shows and to keep a record of where things were found in case more needed to be purchased for the same or future shows. It also helps student designers keep track of budgets and lets them see their color palettes all together.
